Dream Home Office

I’ve worked in a lot of offices over the years, and what always strikes me is how similarly they are decked out. Generally speaking, company offices are there to be functional, but don’t tend to be very comfortable or visually pleasing places to work. Cream walls, grey carpets, light wood desks and metal filing cabinets – sound familiar?

So if you had the chance to do it differently and create your own home office space, how would you do it? There are endless options, from ultra modern to traditional or antique, whether you buy brand new furniture or pre-loved, you can create a space that is tailored to you and inspires you to, well, work!

I personally think that if you’re going to be sitting at a desk all day, you need something that’s bright, comfortable, and stylish, somewhere you enjoy being, and are not tempted to leave to go to another more inspiring room! Here are some of my favourites.

Desk

For a home office, I really like the modern, clean style of a white, glossy desk, like this one from Ikea.

Chair

As well as looking for a chair that’s comfortable and supports your back, there’s no reason you can’t buy one that looks great too. I think this one from Homebase matches the Ikea desk perfectly.

Lighting

Having the right amount of light in an office is really important. Thinking about the position of your desk in relation to the window is vital, and also think about other sources of light. As well as ceiling lights, it’s a great idea to have a freestanding or desk lamp that you can move to highlight your workspace. How about this cute little desk lamp from Tesco?

Decoration

There’s no reason why an office can’t have some colour and style added with a few pictures, like this one from Argos.
